Re: Separation of Rinse Water from Rice

A number of California RICE PRODUCERS are now marketing a rice flour product that is used as a specialized ingredient in many new food products.

After rice is milled to remove the outer seed coat it is washed in water to remove debris and other dust contaminants that may be on the surface of the rice grain.

It is important to remove the surface water from the washed rice before it has a chance to be absorbed into the rice kernel. A slurry of water and rice is fed continuously into an FES basket centrifuge where the rice grain is dewatered. The basket centrifuge rotates at high rpm removing most of the water from the rice grain by centrifugal force. The dewatered rice is discharged continuously from the centrifuge through the solids discharge chute.

The dried rice grain is then fed into a rotary dryer to complete the drying process before it is finally ground into rice flour for final packaging.
